Marketing Cloud Data Extension

Marketing Cloud Data Extension – Information about contacts is stored in data extensions. A data extension is simply a table containing data fields about your contacts. Data extensions can be standalone or related to other data extensions. You can use the data to run queries, retrieve information, and send it to a subset of subscribers. You can import data extensions manually or automate the import through Automation Studio or the Marketing Cloud Engagement API. Data extensions are available in Contact Builder and Email Studio, but data extension permissions, sharing, and other features are available in Email Studio.

Data extensions can be shared with other business units by storing them in a shared data extensions folder. You can configure data retention policy settings, choose who can see what tasks are available, set sharing periods, and determine which business units can access shared data extensions.

Filters are often used to update existing data extensions and create new data extensions.
